In class writing assignment, Class 1
Bring to mind the three books that you've read recently (for any
reason) and that you enjoyed reading.
These could be assigned books, books read to others; any book that
you've read counts. For this writing assignment, you are going to
argue for using one of these three books inside of an English 101
course as the topic for one of that class' four major
assignments. If your proposal is accepted, English 101 students
will need to read the book and write a paper about the book that you're
about to suggest. The paper does not have to be a traditional
"English paper." The paper written can be any flavor of paper you
would like to propose.
Write a quick, persuasive paper 2-3 double-spaced pages in length,
Times New Roman 12 point with one inch margins. Your audience
will be the instructors of English 101. Explain why you chose the
book your propose. What are the advantages for the students being
exposed to its contents? How can writing about the book help
other students both grow in character and in their writing
skills? What kind (that is, what genre?) of papers would you
expect students to write? Why didn't
you choose the other books on your short list? Include other
lines of reasoning in your paper as well.
When you are done, please name the file of your 2-3 page paper
InClass1_LastName_20090819, substituting your last name for "LastName"
and today's date for "20090819". Attach this paper to an email
that you'll send to rufwork@gmail.com.
We will discuss these papers during class. You will have
approximately 40 minutes to write this paper.
